Poor husband and wife had just gotten married. One day, the wife went to borrow money so that her husband could travel far away to find work. Because he was deceived by others, the husband lost all his money. Feeling deeply distressed, he jumped into the water to end his life, but a female spirit saved him. The two of them then lived together and eventually had a child.
The man later remembered his wife back in their village and decided to gather his belongings and his child to return home. As for his wife in the village, because her husband had been gone for so long and their house was seized by others, she suffered greatly and eventually died.
When the husband arrived, he learned that his wife had passed away. Terrified, he ran away from her and went back to the spirit woman in the forest. The man then met a hermit, who told him everything. Overcome with grief and remorse, he asked to stay and serve the hermit to accumulate good deeds for his next life.
