The story is a retelling of the classic Brothers Grimm folktale. A boastful hare mocks the humble hedgehog for his short legs and slow pace. The hedgehog challenges the hare to a race and cleverly devises a trick: he and his wife take turns appearing at the finish line, shouting “I’m already here!” each time the hare reaches the end of his furrow. Repeatedly outsmarted, the hare eventually collapses from exhaustion. The tale teaches a lesson about humility, cleverness, and the dangers of underestimating others.
