There were two boys named Sok and Sav who lived in the same village. Sok was a kind boy, while Sao was mean. One day, they went into the forest together to cut bamboo .While they were eating lunch, Sao suddenly stabbed Sok in the eye with a knife and then pushed him into the river. Sok was later found by a hermit, who helped him and magically healed his eye. The hermit also gave Sok some instructions to follow. When Sok returned home, he told his grandmother everything that had happened. He followed the hermit’s instructions, and as a result, his house was filled with gold and silver. Because of his greed, Sao asked Sok to stab his eye too and throw him into the river, hoping to receive the same fortune. But Sao died in the water instead. After his death, he was reincarnated as a sticky burr (a thorny grass) that clings to people’s clothes—something that continues to these day.
