A porcelain shepherdess and a china chimney sweep, standing on a table in a wealthy home, fall in love. But the old carved figure of a satyr, who calls himself their grandfather, wants to marry the shepherdess to a tall, grand porcelain figure. To escape, the two lovers climb up the chimney and out onto the roof. Frightened by the vast world outside, the shepherdess insists they return home. They manage to go back unnoticed, and though still in danger of being forced apart, they remain together on the table, choosing love and closeness over grandeur and adventure.
