Mole grows tired of spring cleaning and decides to leave his underground home to explore the outside world. For the first time, he sees the river and meets Rat, who teaches him about boating and the joys of river life. Together, they become close friends and go on adventures, sometimes visiting Toad, who is reckless and obsessed with new fads, like motorcars, and Badger, who is wise and reclusive. Mole learns about bravery, friendship, and responsibility as he helps his friends rescue Toad from trouble and reclaim Toad Hall.
