A merchant’s donkey carries salt to market, but when it slips into a river, the load lightens. Thinking this is clever, the donkey repeats it, until the merchant loads it with wet sponges instead. The donkey learns that shortcuts can backfire, teaching a lesson about consequences and cleverness.
