Kalyani was the daughter of a poor farmer who lived in a remote rural area. One day, while she was digging for yams in the forest, she drank some elephant urine and later became pregnant. She eventually gave birth to a daughter named Kantan Sattra.

When the girl reached the age of seven, her father—King Domrei S, the elephant king—built her a palace to live in. Later on, she met King Samal Reach, and the two fell in love.

Meanwhile, King Entri, a cruel ruler, arranged for his daughter, Princess Moha, to marry King Samal Reach. But King Samal Reach refused. Angered, King Entri raised his army and attacked.

In the battle that followed, the Elephant King, King Entri, and Princess Moha all died. King Samal Reach and Kantan Sattra then held their wedding ceremony and became husband and wife.
