Later, a fortune teller predicted that a mythical bird (Intri) would carry a royal maiden. The man who was skilled in archery shot down the bird, causing the maiden to fall into the sea. The man who could dive went underwater to rescue her. The man who knew healing revived her. Because of the maiden’s beauty, all four men fell in love with her and each wanted to take her as his wife. Unable to agree, they went to seek judgment from the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva ruled that the man who dove into the sea to rescue her should be the one to marry the maiden. The other three were given roles as her elder brother, mother, and father. Then, on the wedding day, the Bodhisattva transformed the three into a pot of rice, a rice ladle, and a food tray — so that they would continue to serve the newlyweds.
