មានប្តីប្រពន្ធក្រីក្រមួយគូររស់នៅក្នុងនគរមួយ ៕ ថ្ងៃមួយប្រពន្ធយល់សប្តិឃើញអ្នកមានបុណ្យមកចាប់ជាតិក្នុងផ្ទៃនាង ។​ ក្រោយមកស្រ្តីជាប្រពន្ធបានឡើងបេះស្វាយក៏ធ្លាក់ពីលើដើមស្វាយធ្លាយពោះស្លាប់មួយរំពេច ដោយបន្សល់ទុកនូវទារកមួយ និងកូនគោមួយ​ ដែលត្រូវបានដាក់ឈ្មោះថាព្រះគោ ព្រះកែវ ។​ អ្នកស្រុកក៏បានបណ្តេញមាណពចេញពីភូមិដោយចោទថាគ្រួសារនេះចង្រៃ ។​ ពួកគេក៏ទៅរស់នៅក្នុងព្រៃ ។ ដោយការស្រេកឃ្លានរបស់ព្រះកែវ ព្រះគោក៏ក្អេរបាយចេញពីពោះដើម្បីអោយប្អូនញុាំ ។ ឃើងដូច្នេះក្មេងៗក៏មានបំណងចាប់ព្រះគោដើម្បីវះពោះយកអាហារ ។​ ព្រះគោគ៏ងោយប្អូនតោងកន្ទុយដើម្បីហោះទៅលើមេឃ ។ ព្រះកែវក៏ចម្រើនវ័យហើយបានចាប់ចិត្តស្រលាញ់នាងពៅដែលាជាបុត្រីពៅរបស់ស្តេច ។​​

There once lived a poor husband and wife in a certain kingdom.One night, the wife had a dream in which she saw a virtuous spirit being reborn in her womb.​ Later, while picking mangoes, she fell from the tree and suddenly died, her belly torn open. She left behind a baby and a calf. The baby was named Preah Kaew (Sacred Jewel), and the calf was named Preah Ko (Sacred Cow). The villagers, believing the family was cursed or unnatural, expelled the spirit (the baby and the calf) from the village.
So, they went to live in the forest. Out of hunger and compassion for Preah Kaew, Preah Ko tore open his own belly to provide food for his younger brother. When the other children saw this, they wanted to capture Preah Ko and cut open his belly to get food as well.
Sensing danger, Preah Ko allowed his younger brother to cling to his tail, and they both flew up into the sky. As he grew older, Preah Kaew fell in love with a beautiful girl named Neang Peou, who was the adopted daughter of the king.
