រឿងនេះ ជាស្នាដៃដ៏ល្បីល្បាញក្នុងប្រវត្តិសាស្រ្តកម្ពុជា។​ រឿងនេះជាសេចក្តីប្រែនៃរឿងរបស់ឥណ្ឌា ដែលជាស្នាដៃនិពន្ធរបស់លោក វាល្មិកិរវាង ព.ស ប្រមាណ​៥០ឆ្នាំ ហើយផ្សាយចចេញពីតំបន់មួយដោយមានលំនាំតាមទំនៀមទំលាប់ តាមបែបទំនងស្រុករបស់ខ្លួន ។​​​​​​​ ប៉ុន្តែរឿងរាមកេរ្ត៏ខ្មែរយើងមិនបានលើកតំកើងព្រះរាមថាជាអវតាទី៧ របស់ព្រះវិស្នុរដែលមានភាវចុះមកកំចាត់សភាវអាក្រក់នេះទេ តែគីជាដំណើររឿងរបស់មនុស្សសាមញ្ញក្នុងលោកិយយើងនេះ ហើយសរសេរចងក្រងជាពាក្យកាព្យឃ្លោង ភាសាសំស្រ្កឺតក្លាយ និងបាលីថ្លែងពីរឿងចំបាំងយ៉ាងធំ ។

This is a renowned work in the history of Cambodia. The story is an adaptation of an Indian epic, originally composed by Valmiki around 50 B.C. It was passed down from one region to another, adapted according to local customs and storytelling traditions.

However, the Khmer version of the Ramayana does not elevate Rama as the seventh avatar of Vishnu who descended to destroy evil, as in the Hindu tradition. Instead, it portrays the tale as a journey of ordinary human beings within the worldly realm. It is composed in poetic form using Sanskritized Khmer and Pali, describing grand battles and epic adventures.
