The story follows Sam, a young farmer who, along with his wife Say, leaves their rural village due to poverty and moves to Phnom Penh to work as a cyclo driver. After being fined for a traffic violation and unable to pay the fine, they are evicted from their rented room. They find temporary shelter at a pagoda.

Say is later sent to work in the house of a wealthy merchant, Mr. Hok. One night, he assaults her, leading her to leave his house and seek refuge with fellow workers. Despite the trauma, Sam remains committed to justice and integrity.
