In the ancient kingdom of Tevapor, there was a wealthy merchant named Thon who possessed vast riches, including 80,000 warehouses filled with treasures. Despite his wealth, he had no heir to inherit his fortune. Meanwhile, in the neighboring district of Pachantakream, another merchant named Phok faced a similar plight. Upon hearing that at the sacred Wat Preah That temple, childless individuals could pray for offspring, both merchants visited the temple to seek divine intervention.

They made a vow: if one were blessed with a son and the other with a daughter, their children would be united in marriage. However, if both had children of the same gender, they would still honor their promise. Subsequently, Thon was blessed with a son, and Phok with a daughter. The children, named Pohtisath and Kesaromali, grew up unaware of their intertwined destinies.

As time passed, Thon's wealth dwindled, leading to his downfall. In his destitution, he resorted to begging. One day, he encountered Phok, who, despite his own prosperity, coldly dismissed him. Heartbroken, Thon passed away in the wilderness.

His son, Pohtisath, now known as Chao Srotbachek, lived in abject poverty. Determined to honor his mother's last wish, he sold his only possession, a piece of cloth, to afford a proper funeral for her. In his journey, he sought refuge with a teacher and began his education.

Meanwhile, Kesaromali, moved by compassion, sought to find Chao Srotbachek. After several attempts, she succeeded and offered him food and clothing, symbolizing her empathy and kindness.
