Summary, etc. A widowed king promises his dying wife that he will only marry someone as beautiful as she was. After her death, he searches for such a woman but finds no one—until his own daughter grows up and resembles her mother. The king declares he will marry her, horrifying the princess.<br/><br/>To avoid the marriage, the princess demands three seemingly impossible dresses: one as golden as the sun, one as silver as the moon, and one as glittering as the stars. She also asks for a magical cloak made of a thousand different furs ("Allerleirauh"). When the king provides all of them, she runs away in disguise, hiding her identity under the cloak.<br/><br/>She finds work as a kitchen maid in a faraway castle. At night, she secretly wears her beautiful dresses and catches the attention of the young king. Eventually, he discovers her true identity, and they marry.<br/><br/>
