នៅឆ្នាំ ១៣៧២ គ.ស. ដូនពេញ បានរកឃើញរូបព្រះពុទ្ធប្រាំអង្គ នៅក្នុងលំដាប់ឈើមួយ។ បន្ទាប់មក អ្នកបានហៅអ្នកជិតខាងមកជួយគ្នាបូមភ្នំនិងសង់សារមន្ទីរមួយ ដើម្បីដាក់រូបព្រះពុទ្ធទាំងនោះ។ ភ្នំនោះត្រូវបានដាក់ឈ្មោះតាមឈ្មោះរបស់ដូន គឺ “ភ្នំពេញ”។ In 1372 AD, Granny Penh found five Buddha statues in the tree trunk; then she gathered her neigbors to mound the hill and built the shrine to place the statues there. That hill was named after her which was call Phnom Penh (Penh mountain) .
